Logistical activities could be impacted this week and next as Winter Storm Niko drops heavy snowfall on the northeastern portion of the United States. 

Winter Storm Niko is projected to cause 14 inches of snow fall across the Northeast region. The storm began on Wednesday, February 8 and snowfall is projected to continue through today, Thursday, February 9.

The states of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland have officially issued winter storm warnings. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have also issued winter storm warnings as well as below freezing temperature warnings through the end of the week. The extremely low temperatures are expected to cause the precipitation accumulation to linger.

Please note that shipments originating, transshipping or destined for the Northeast could be delayed due to Winter Storm Niko.

As the storm causes low visibility and dangerous road conditions, shipments transported via rail, truck and air have the potential to be delayed.

Additionally, ports and terminals in the region are expected to close or limit operational hours due to the winter weather. The Port of New York issued a storm advisory on its website announcing all container terminals will be closed today, February 9. 

According to Yahoo, over 3,000 flights have already been cancelled. The reports states that nearly 2,000 of the cancellations originate from New York's local airports: Newark, LaGaurdia and JFK. Hundreds of flights out of and into Boston, Philadelphia and Connecticut have also been cancelled.
